	We are a small club with a long tradition behind us - that being the annual Mr. Fur Face competiton since 1950. We currently have 56 members from Anchorage, Fairbanks, Peters Creek, Eagle River, Rabbit Creek, Houston, and Wasilla, Alaska, as well as several from other cool places around the globe. We are the Southcentral Alaska Beard & Moustache Club and we welcome your comments, friendship, and your free membership!

Several members of SCAKBMC were filmed for a segment of "Tougher in Alaska" this winter. The show is now out on the History Channel and a video of the segment is posted on MSN Video. Check out the link to see our "15 minutes of fame" :)

Tougher in Alaska: Beards of Alaska


			Will Merrill, III - President Will is the 2010 Mr. Fur Face grand champion and assumes the role of Club President. He works at an outdoor recreation store and is an avid snowmachiner. He brings with him an enthusiasm for the world of competitive facial hair and we are glad to have him take the helm. He was a competitor in the 9th WBMC and has won the Mountain Goat category at the Miners and Trappers Ball on several occasions.Yes, his goatee does not fit in the picture!!! - so for a full photo please go to the Mr. Fur Face page. email address -- will@akbeardclub.com.


			Jon Smiley - Vice President Jon is a 2X Brown Bear competitor at the Miners and Trappers Ball and competed at the 9th World Beard and Moustache Championships. He is new to the world of competive facial hair, having just started growing his beard in August of 2008, but has been active in Club activities and was elected the new VP. Jon brings a lot of new ideas into the organization and we look forward to his leadership. Onward to Norway. email address -- jon@akbeardclub.com.



			David Traver - Secretary David was the second president and founder of the SCAKBMC and is the consummate competitor. His Father and brother also have competed in the annual competition. David works in the medical supply field and is an accomplished hunter and outdoorsman. His list of bearded achievements is remarkable. He was the Overall Champion of the 9th WBMC after winning the Full Beard Freestyle category with an amazing snow shoe braided beard! He was World Champion in the Full Beard Natural class at the Worlds in 2003, third place at the Worlds in Brighton 2007. David has been Mr. Fur Face 4X, in addition to his usual domination of the Brown Bear category at the M&T Ball. email address - scakbmc@yahoo.com



			Bob Gengler - Webmaster Bob is the past president of the Club. He works in the medical field and runs a wildlife and nature photography business. His interests include biking, skiing, camping, kayaking, and almost anything outdoors including bee keeping. At the 9th WBMC, Bob placed 2nd in the Full Beard with Styled Moustache category, and was named the Alaska Grizzly Beard contest overall winner. Bob was named Mr. Fur Face in 2008 at the Miners and Trappers Ball and has been Mr. Honey Bear 3X, and Mr. Soupstrainer once. He was named Mr. Old Growth in Whitehorse, YT, Canada in 2008, and placed 5th at the Worlds in Berlin 2005 in the Full Beard Natural Category. In 2009, Bob won the "Best Beard in Alaska" contest at the Willow Winter Carnival. He now has a big Fu Manchu which he plans to take to Norway in 2011. email -- bob@akbeardclub.com



			Neal Haglund - Coordinator Neal is the President of the Miners and Trappers, Inc and has been the heart and sole behind the Ball for as long as most of us can remember. He competes in various categories at the Ball and has won many different titles. He was a tough competitor in the 9th WBMC in the Garibaldi category. He is an elementary school music teacher who loves his fishing, and has a German style oompa band - Die Alaska Blaskapelle - that makes the rounds in Alaska. His vast knowledge and tireless work are an asset to both the Club and the Ball. Neal is also very active in the Lions Club. email address -- scakbmc@yahoo.com.



			Robert Crawford - Southern Ambassador Robert has won the title of Mr. Fur Face 4X times and his long white hair, bushy white beard, and fur coat are synonomus with the M&T Ball. He competes in the Polar Bear category and usually wins this division. At the Alaska Grizzly Beard contest during the 9th WBMC, he won the Polar Bear division as well. He works as a private contractor on the local military bases. He and his wife enjoy raising and showing Shetland Sheepdogs. Robert was the first President of the South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club. Thanks Robert!

	Over the years the South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club has lost several close friends. We value the friendship that we had with each of these people and with their families. We hold each of them in our thoughts and hope that the respect and love that we feel for each of them lives on and comforts both us and their families.
