Miners and Trappers Fur Rondy Parade Float Crew -- 03/01/09 |

David, Bob, Tim, Jon, and Neal were the SCAKBMC representatives on the Lions Club's Miners and Trappers Float for the Fur Rondy in downtown Anchorage. That's not dandruff, but a very welcome snow storm to greet the revelers and the mushers for this annual celebration. We had a "wave-off" with Mrs. Alaska and Ms. Teen Alaska, and well as to be expected, they were much better wavers than we were. The Girl Scouts were behind us and I swear that they were possessed... ask us and if the fear does not overcome us, we might be able to tell you the story. Thanks to Buster Hall for towing us around! |

February Outing -- Alaska Aces Game -- 02/27/09 |

Eleven Club members were able to watch the Alaska Aces defeat the Utah Grizzlys and move into first place in the ECHL. The score was 2-0 and of course there were a few fights on the ice to keep up the tradition! It took several shots to get this photo as members were wondering off like flies. We also got good news as Carlos Gomez, father of NHL legend Scott Gomez, has agreed to be a judge for the World Championships! Pictured from left to right are David Traver, Mitch Jackson, Will Merrill, Tim Slade, Jon Smiley, Neal Haglund, James Traver, and Bob Gengler. Poor Frank Anson and Marilyn were at the game as well, but never was able to locate the group of beards. Brent Miller was also roaming the crowds somewhere and Jeremy Ross was with us too, but had to leave before the game ended. |

A big thanks to the Sockeye Sally's and the Dirty Polli's for a great, entertaining evening! The Polli's ended up winning the hard-fought bout by a close 102 to 98 score and most of the beard club members are sore just from watching these ladies battle it out. The huge crowd was hollerin as the Sally's came from a large deficit to within just few points of winning at the end. We lost several club members to the beer garden but the ones who we could find at the end were treated to a group photo with the skaters;) Pictured from L to R are Norman Pendergraft, Brent Miller, David Traver, Jon Smiley, Bob Gengler, and Mike Lanzarone. Norman's wife Dayna is between me and Mike. Not pictured are Jeremy Ross, Ray Wolfter, Nick Dighiera, and Neal Haglund. Photo by Anne Field Photography! |

1st Annual Hair Bowl Bowling Tournament -- 12/18/08 |

Nine intrepid, yet horribly hirsute, club members showed up at Park Lanes in Mountain View to vie for the vaunted title of this first annual tournament. Did I mention that the bowling alley had a lounge! Jeremy Ross was the master bowler of the night with a 171, and the rest of us were very close to that... OK, not really that close. We forgot to take pictures before Nick Dighiera and Norman Pendergraft left the building - no they were not escorted out this time;) Cinthia Ritchie, a newspaper reporter from the Alaska Newspaper Inc., was our guest as she is writing a story about Beards, Moustaches, Contests, and what possesses us to cover ourselves in hair. Pictured from L to R in the front are Brent Miller and David Traver. In the back row are Will Merrill, Jeremy Ross, John Haywood, Neal Haglund, and Bob Gengler. |

October General Meeting -- 10/18/08 |

The kick off event in preparation for the 9th World Beard and Moustache Championships was held at Guido's Pizza on International Blvd. Get this - women actually came to the pizza party! General club business was discussed... boring. Trophies and memorabilia from the 3 past World Championships were on display and info about the upcoming Worlds, the Miners and Trappers Ball, and the Sourdough Rondy in Whitehorse, Yukon was mulled over. Good pizza, good beer, and good friends. Pictured from L to R - Ray Monfore, Frank Anson, Jim Pinkley, David Traver, Robert Crawford, Neal Haglund, Bob Gengler, Chuck Broadwater, and Shawn Campbell -- not pictured is Jon Smiley. |
